Cigarette Peak or Humbroq Peak Expedition

Cigarette Peak Expedition

Humbroq Valley / Hushe Range — ~6,359m (6,459m)

Cigarette Peak, locally known as Humbroq Peak, is an iconic, needle-sharp granite and ice spire rising above the Humbroq Valley near Hushe in the Ghanche District of Baltistan. Situated within the heart of the Karakoram range, this technical 6,000-meter-plus objective offers a pristine, uncrowded alternative to the heavily trafficked Baltoro routes, while providing panoramic summit views of K2, Broad Peak, and the Gasherbrum massif.

Characterized by dramatic vertical granite faces, sharp knife-edge snow ridges, and low-valley accessibility, Cigarette Peak is a premier target for experienced alpine teams seeking a technical climbing challenge. We provide full Base Camp logistics support — including Islamabad-to-Hushe transportation, official permit clearance, local Balti high-altitude staff, kitchen crew, and complete Base Camp setup.

Route & Climbing History: Located directly above Hushe village via the Humbroq pasturage, Cigarette Peak has drawn technical rock and ice climbers from around the globe seeking first lines on its sheer granite walls and steep upper ice fields. The standard climbing line via the West Ridge involves sustained fixed-line work, steep snow couloirs, and technical mixed climbing on high-grade granite.

Climbing grade: Advanced high-altitude alpine climb (AD+/TD / 45°–55° snow/ice & mixed rock) — short valley approach, glacier navigation, high camp setup, and technical fixed-line climbing over steep exposure. Designed for competent, experienced climbers.

Q1: Where is Cigarette Peak located and what is its exact elevation?
A: Cigarette Peak (also referred to as Humbroq Peak) is situated in the Humbroq Valley above Hushe village in the Ghanche District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Its altitude is recorded between 6,359m and 6,459m depending on surveying maps.
Q2: Why is the approach trek to Cigarette Peak considered unique?
A: Unlike most Karakoram expeditions that require 5 to 7 days of glacier trekking, the approach trek to Cigarette Peak Base Camp takes only 3 to 4 hours from the trailhead at Hushe village.
Q3: What technical difficulty should climbers expect on Cigarette Peak?
A: Cigarette Peak is a technical high-altitude climb requiring proficiency in fixed-rope ascension, steep snow/ice couloir navigation (45°–55°), glacier crevasse rescue, and mixed rock climbing on vertical granite ridges.
Q4: What permit and visa requirements apply to Cigarette Peak?
As this peak is below 6500 meter , you don't need the royalty . Hushe is in restricted area so you need to apply for trekking visa and need a permit from Gilgit Baltistan Tourism. Skardu Expedition Treks and Tours handle all permit and provide you all essential documents for processing visa. Granting visa is totally subject of Government of Pakistan.
Q5: What major Karakoram peaks can be seen from the climbing route?
A: From the high camps and summit ridge, climbers enjoy direct panoramas of the Hushe and Baltoro ranges, including K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I & II, Masherbrum (K1), and Laila Peak.
Q6: What happens if domestic flights between Skardu and Islamabad are canceled?
A: Mountain flights to Skardu depend on clear weather. The expedition itinerary includes built-in overland travel options via the Karakoram Highway (or Babusar Pass) with overnight stops in Chilas on Days 2–3 and Days 23–24
